Error Proofing / Poka Yoke

In more and more instances, machine vision technology is being used in Poka Yoke or error proofing systems. Such systems ensure that a component/sub assembly is correctly built prior to advancing to the next station. Typically such systems have parts that will intentionally fail the vision system test.  Manufacturers might run these at the start of each shift.  This is to determine that the vision system is correctly picking up on the intentional defects.  The following illustrates a 20 camera system used to check a dashboard frame assembly of having all the proper hardware installed prior to moving on to the first build station.
